An existing parking lot was removed to create a five-phase habitat expansion for some of the largest animals at the zoo. Major elements of the Africa Exhibit include:

  • Hippo Cove - A 70,000 gallon pool and filtration system, holding building, underwater glass viewing structure, and demonstration area.

  • African Savannah - Large multi-species grassland and river.

  • Cheetah Encounter - Animal demonstration area with viewing grandstand.

  • Giraffe Ridge - Elevated viewing deck and giraffe feeding encounter.

  • Base Camp Cafe - Restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating.

  • Twiga Tented Camp - Private event area for overnight zoo programs.

  • African Painted Dog Habitat - Open air habitat and holding building.
